Puberty Drama

This is the result of a "I have NOTHING to wear" Sunday morning. Do you have a pre-teen? Please save me now. I have two in the beginning stages of puberty and the drama and moodiness is getting crazy. My son has always been a laid-back, easy-going boy. I never had much problems with him. He is 9 now and outbursts of yelling, anger, and frustration are coming more and more frequent. Talking back has also been a problem, along with the "I know everything" attitude mixed in for good measure. What ever happened to my sweet and cuddly boy!?? He still has his endearing moments though, if he has an outburst- he always comes and tells me he's sorry for being mean to me. :) Now, on the other side of the puberty scale is my 10-year old daughter, going on 16. The above picture was a direct result of a full-scale drama episode in our house as we got ready for church. She, now, has always been a bit of a firecracker with her emotions. (she is too much like me- poor child) Anyway, there just was absolutely nothing to wear that was nice and stylish to church. Granted, she had outfits that we pointed out to her, but NO that skirt was too ugly, no one would be caught dead in that one, that one was itchy, that one was last week's style! Now, you have to understand, this is coming from the girl that cried her way in the Famous Footwear store to get her Dad to buy her the $70 Marc Echo- Vanessa Hudgens- RED shoes for school. Are they practical? Do they have good traction? Well, NO, but they have all these cool embellishments and heck- Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale promote them! What more could we ask for! She is beyond happy with them. :) (Should I say, atleast for this month). Nevertheless, we finally got her into something acceptable and she got everyone trying on ties from Dad's closet and was happy as can be. Needless to say, she wouldn't be caught wearing the tie to church!

Life is so much simpler with this one:

  1. Oh Didi...I completely empathize with you! Sunday mornings are extremely chaotic, and I wonder if we will ever get to church on time due to the fashion dilemna's we are constantly experiencing! All of Madeline's dresses are either too small, too itchy, or "dumb" looking...I even bought her a new dress on Friday, she LOVED it!! She put it on this morning before church and immediately complained that the sleeves were too tight. My solution? I got the scissors, snipped the stupid elastic, and said "there!"...she was so dumbfounded that she couldn't even argue!
