I love to read- it's one of my favorite pastimes. My daughter Rebecca is an avid reader as well and lately has had me reading along with her so we can discuss and talk about the books she reads. Sometimes adults fall into the rut of only reading what is available in the adult section of the library. What a mistake that is! There are so many good books in the young adult and children section and for the most part you don't have to worry about coming across bad language or inappropriate content. It is refreshing. Rebecca wanted me to put out on my blog the last two books we read (one she's read the whole series of and is now re-reading and having me read as well when she doesn't have the book).
One is: "Each Little Bird that Sings" by Deborah Wiles

This book is a good read about family relations and how death affects us. It will make you cry.
The other is "Peter and the Star Catchers" by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. They have 3 books out in this series so far and Rebecca is anxiously hoping for a 4th. It is very good and about how Peter Pan, Captain Hook, and the Lost Boys all came to be. Ever wondered why Peter never could grow old? How can he fly? How did he meet Hook and why are they enemies? It's the story before the story.
The Barry/Pearson books, fun though they may be, have MANY contradictions and mistakes from J.M. Barrie's original stories. Barrie gave us a backstory and they got it all wrong. It's more like a prequel to Disney and even that seems to be contradicted.
ReplyDeleteAll the prequels and sequels go against Barrie, except for one.

BELIEVE!
Quite frankly I really don't care if they go against Barrie's original and if it's a totally new fantasy. It is an awesome trilogy and the children that are reading at my daughters level all LOVE it. That is what matters and what makes a good book. It captivates you and you don't want to stop reading.
ReplyDeleteReading is the best and I loved the starcatcher series too!
ReplyDeleteI found Peter and the Starcatchers at the library and picked it up for Sierra. She wasn't so sure about it but ended up loveing it. I will have to find the other one for her. Rebecca and her should share books to read.
