My Daddy

(My Dad and I when we were both a wee bit younger)
Some good things I remember about my Dad growing up are:
  1. Daddy monster chase right before bed. (Mom loved this game)
  2. My Dad had a little bit of werewolf in him- whenever there was a full moon he'd go a little bit nuts - sometimes he'd even open the front door and howl.
  3. If you really wanted a lot of new clothes, you went shopping with Dad.
  4. DO NOT ask Dad a question unless you want an hour long answer explaining everything as far back as possible, the known hypothesies, philosophical ponderings, etc.
  5. DO go to Dad if you have a math problem (he did Calculus for fun).
  6. Dad was/is an excellent cook and gardener. We always had a big, wonderful garden and reaped the results. He canned too and we always had fresh jellies and the like.
  7. He loved hiking at the dunes by Lake Michigan and he loved going on long bike rides.
  8. He worked very hard to provide.
  9. I thought he knew everything!
  10. He always tried to help me when I was depressed and showed me how pleased he was with my accomplishments.

(Dad and Rebecca in 2004)
Do you see that platinum blong hair of his!

What I know now:

  1. My Dad is extemely intelligent. He got scholarships to both BYU and The University of Chicago for his Master's degree. His major was economics. He asked for a dictionary when he was a child so he could read it all. He was able to skip school as a child as long as he came in and got A's on the weekly tests. He is constantly seeking knowledge.
  2. He speaks fluent Spanish. He went on a mission for our church when he was 19 and went to Uruguay, South America for two years. He was pampered there. They had their own maid to clean and cook for them at that time there. Pretty spoiled I'd say.
  3. He served in the Army during Vietnam as a military instructor at the U.S. Army Signal School at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. He received the Army Commendation Medal when discharged.
  4. Before he retired he was a principal in his company.
  5. He loves nature and being out in it. He still loves to hike, though it's in the mountains in southern Utah now. And he still likes to garden and can.
  6. He likes to be alone. He has never been social.
  7. He is a hyperchondriac; just ask him if he's dieing.
  8. He'll do ANYTHING for my Mom if she cries.
  9. He can be very funny.
  10. He gives great advice and he is usually right.

  11. He was born February 8th, 1942 in Provo, Utah, which means he's 67 this Sunday!

Happy Birthday DAd! I love you!
He loves his family and grandkids too!

  2. Thanks. Yeah I see a lot of me in some of my babies too, and I got pretty much all my genetic traits from my Dad and his side of the family, including all the bad ones. There are many ways we are alike.
